Trades for July 11, 2023

It's been a while since I've been posting anything. I need to hold myself more accountable for my trades so I'm going to post my daily trades. I'll start posting my gains/losses as I close them out or let my options expire.

Disclosure: My trades are not analytical. I just play the stocks that I like or think they have potential. Please do not follow my trades unless you do your due diligence.

New Start: 2020

Near the end of 2018, market was taking a major dive.  All the paper gains, I previously held were diminishing before my eyes.  I panicked and sold off most of my holdings in my IB Margin account.  That proved to be my worst downfall to date.

For 2019, I was like a walking zombie literally as I had a young colicky baby who woke up every 2-3 hours each night and a rumbustious toddler to test my patience.  I was not active in the market at all.  I missed out on a stellar market rally.

Boohoo, this is my sad stock story.  But I am determined to start a fresh and get back into the swing of things.  My RRSP (27.64%) and TFSA (38.07%) has been growing steadily as I have left most of my stocks alone.  IB Margin (-32.85%) is in the negative (OUCH) as I have withdrawn cash to fund other commitments.

Could 2020 be a record year again?  Or could it deflate again and I can catch my footing again?

Time will only tell.

BOUGHT 1 $MSFT Jan18'19 110 CALL @ 5.88

My IB portfolio has been pretty volatile from day to day since the beginning of October.  One day gains have been wiped out by the next day or two.  I shouldn't be looking that closely to it.  I haven't really adjusted any of my short PUT options, but some are ITM like short 2 PUT on $TD.TO.  I wouldn't mind getting assigned and selling covered calls on them.  But of course, I would be buying them at almost 52 weeks highs.

I need to be more active in the markets to make more money.  Usually, I sit on the sidelines just watching... yesterday, I was very well tempted with making a play for $NFLX earnings.  But of course, I hesitated and didn't make an option play.

Today, I am itching for a play.  A play that hopefully will double my money.  I bought a long CALL on $MSFT before their earnings on October 24th.  Hopefully, my bet will be a good one and I can reap some rewards in it.  Of course, I usually sell prematurely on my CALL plays... I hate losing my premiums and want to lock in my gains.

ACB.TO & APH.TO down today, Oct 16, 2018

This may be done prematurely as I currently have PUTS expiring on both stocks for Oct 19, 2018, but they are OTM for now.

ACB.TO & APH.TO were down today.  So I decided to sell some more PUTS on them.

Massive Sell Off - Oct 10-11, 2018

Market correction in its wake?  What a roller coaster ride October has been.  I sold a few out of the money PUTS just before the massive sell off when I should have bought PUTS, but I didn't see it coming.  Currently, I am still holding all my short PUTS.  A lot of them are underwater right now deep in red.  I am hoping today is the start of the market rebounding.  But we could see more red days than not in the coming weeks or months perhaps?

Oct 3rd, I reached my all time highs in my IB portfolio of $205k!  I am very heavily weighted in US tech stocks particularly in $AAPL.  But the market decided to turn its ugly heads.  I know a lot of people took advantage of the drop by shorting stocks and long PUTS.  But I was stunned and I froze like always... I didn't watch the blood bath.  I only looked at my portfolio at the end of day and saw the big losses that had incurred.  Luckily, I have a lot of margin room to not get a margin call... and most of my short PUTS are expiring on Nov 21st.

Trades on Sept 24th-28th

Trade on Sept 24th

Trade on Sept 28th
SOLD 1 FB Nov16'18 150 PUT @ 2.18
SOLD 2 TD TSE Oct26'18 77.5 PUT @CDE @ 0.61
SOLD 3 TSLA Nov16'18 100 PUT @ 1.34

I've been busy at work lately, but I managed to sneak in some trades during my morning work hours.  I always seem to miss the boat on $NVDA.  Friday, it jumped 5%... at least I sold a PUT for some premium earlier in the week.  Now, it's way OTM.

Thursday night, I noticed that Elon Musk was being sued by the SEC over an alleged Tweet on going private.  Shares took a tumble on Friday by 13.9%... I took this opportunity to sell very safe OTM puts on $TSLA.  Looks like Elon Musk pulled a quick settlement by paying the SEC $40 million dollars and stepping down as Chairman of Board but he will still remain CEO.  With this new, shares should jump back up after the initial scare and I should pocket an easy $402 in premiums within time.

Shit I came close on my $NVDA short 8 PUT at $262.50 expiry date Sep 21st

I thought I was safe.  $NVDA was trading higher up this morning around $267ish per share, but continued on a down trend close to my short 8 PUTS @ $262.50 strike.  I ended up closing my short 8 PUTS @ 0.03 which cost me $6.67 in commission.  It is way better than gambling with getting assigned 800 shares @ $262.50 = $210k!!  Luckily, I was on my lunch break and saw the breakdown.  I thought $NVDA would have closed above $262.50 per share, but it is definitely testing my strike price

I am glad I made the move as of writing this 12:46pm... my short PUTS would have cost me 36c to close out which I would have taken a loss on this BULL PUT SPREAD.  It is 1:00pm, $NVDA actually closed at $263.45 which is above my short PUT... ugh, I could have profited $24 and saved on commissions of $6.67.  But what a ride out that would have been!

Realized profit for the week:  $556 less $24.41 in commissions.  Commission was higher due to my bull put spread.  I opened my bull put spread on $NVDA on Tuesday (3 day hold)... even though it uses less margin to open the option, it does add up commissions and your risks are inherently higher when your PUT is at the money.  Time to sell more NAKED puts further expiration dates with wider out of the money strike prices.

Recent Trades This Week

Today, SOLD 2 $ACB TSE Oct19'18 10 PUT @ 0.75.  Awesome premiums for $10 strike price.  Right now, I'm at a loss as $ACB.TO dropped quite a bit in the last part of the day.

Yesterday, I also open $NVDA bull put spread: 8 $162.50/$157.50P @ 0.27 expiry date Sept 21th.  Right now, $NVDA is trading at $271.80 per share.

Yesterday, I closed my 2 $INTC 46 PUT @ 22c from 69c.  Profited $94 USD.

SOLD 5 $APH TSE Oct19'18 13 PUT @ 0.55

$APH.TO trading at $19.20

Last $APH.TO is about to expire worthless on Sept 14th, so I thought I'd open another one get more premiums.

If I had bought 500 shares $APH.TO when I first opened my last PUT option, I would have been up significantly more by $1500-2000 in paper gains.  I do have cash in my CAD account, but this is a risky play anyways.

Opened Bull Put Spread on $NVDA

$NVDA trading at $273.15.
Opened $NVDA-$160P/$150P @ 0.23 expiry date Sep 14

Update 10:35am western time on Sept 13th: The day after I open my position, $NVDA took a big dip. But luckily, it recovered this morning.  One more day to expire... I hope $NVDA holds cuz anything can happen in a matter of a few trading hours.

$LMT trading at $324.38/share
SOLD 1 $LMT Dec21'18 345 CALL @ 4.35
I still have my assigned 100 shares from this post.  Sold 100 shares at realized profit of $692.91 on April 20th... but I had cover call on the last 100 shares that was after earnings and share prices drop dramatically.  I've been trying to get rid of 100 shares for a while, but my avg now for my assignment is $336.74 per share.  Hopefully, I can get rid of my shares by end of the year.  With selling this covered call, it will reduce my cost to $332.39/share by expiry date.

SPY trade @ $283.27, BTO $283P @ $2.35 expiry date Aug 31, 2018

Option Trade:

Buy to Open PUT strike @ $283 when $SPY was trading at $283.27 on August 3, 2018.  The premium I paid was $235.00 + commission of $0.71 with expiry date of August 31, 2018.  Cost of trade is $235.71.

Reason:  I am betting $SPY will go down at one point in August below $283, but time decay is of the essence.  The fast $SPY dips below $283, the quicker I can exit my trade with a gain.  Let's say by the end of the day $SPY goes down to $282... I can potential close my trade for $100 profit of the $235.00 I paid out.... Netting 43% on very little money gambled.  But if $SPY goes above to $284, I can potential close my trade for $100 loss as well.  It is very price sensitive... that is if I decide to cut my winnings or losses in a day.  But I bought 20 trading days to see the price fluctuate...

Update:  Aug 10th - blew my chance to get out with a $40 gain.  All week, I've been down of upwards of $100 loss... but I just never know when the market will turn... got another 3 weeks to see it burn.

Aug 13th - sold my $283 PUT when $SPY was trading at $282.23 per share for $59 profit, 25% gain.  Early morning hours, $SPY was trading above $283.00 and I was down $40.  This goes to show you how fast a trade can turn on you.  So I am making an exit before it rises again, but of course it always drops some more after I sold it. UGH.

OPPS, I forgot about my $LMT bull put spread

2- Bull put spread on $LMT $145/$135 strikes 23MAR18: premium collected $251 on $2000 margin risk

After I opened $LMT bull put spread on Feb 26, 2018, $LMT fell below my strikes and flattered in between.  I didn't pay much attention to it but I knew I had to roll out my spread in order to save my spread.  That very Friday, I totally forgot about $LMT as I went to work for a few hours then took a couple hours off mid-morning to watch a free movie Wonder at the theaters.  By the time, I got back to work, my heart dropped a little bit as I realized that I didn't roll my spread!

$LMT was actually trading below my long strike at $135.  Lo and behold, end of day, it closed just above $335 meaning my long strike is worthless and I got assigned my short puts for 200 shares @ $345.

Today, I am on margin for $69k and I need to lower my margin basis.  I sold a couple of calls against $LMT to hopefully fund my financing cost and to get out of the stock at a profit eventually.

1- sold covered call on $LMT $347.50 strike 29MAR18: premium collected $190
1- sold covered call on $LMT $335.00 strike 20APR18: premium collected $217

I will keep on selling one weekly call, until it gets called away to reduce my margin load.
